Crockenhill fc past v Crockenhill fc Present
Result 2-3
Boxing Day 2008 in Aid of Cherished Memories
On Boxing day the club held a charity game for Cherish memories an organisation that takes terminally ill children on trips of a life time.
Last year Crockenhill juniors were up against The Mud Hole public house with the Crocks coming out on top 5-3.
This year the game was between Crockenhill past v the present, there was a good turn out for both teams with Tony Martin managing the past and Sean Stone the present.
Apart from the good turn out from the lads there were also four of the ladies team there so it was agreed that even though they are all part of the present Crockenhill club each side had two girls Sharona Doyle, Laura Adenuga played for the past and Kelly Hartnell, Holly Hope for the present.
The Game was a close encounter with both sides coming close to scoring early on but it was the past that opened up the scoring with a goal from John Whitty a shot though a crowd of players that gave keeper Craig Clark no chance of getting.
The past should have been two up minutes later when Laura miss hit a shot from close range.
The first half finished 1-0 so there was plenty to play for in the second half.
Both side made changes at half time with all four girls on and they certainly played their part with Sharona roughing up a few of the lads just ask Dale the barbour, and it wasn’t long before the present were back on level terms with Billy Martin putting Bradley Jeffries through who’s shot hit the far post and went in.
For a while the present were on top coming close a number of times but against the run of play the past went 2-1 up with a goal mouth scramble which went in off defender Peter Jewell but was later claimed by Michael Hearne sent replacement keeper Matt Parker the wrong way.
The present didn’t give up though with John Adams and Billy Martins hard work in midfield they managed to get an equaliser setting up another great goal from Bradley Jeffries ten minutes from time, this would have been a fair result but Ronnie Jeffries not wanting to be upstaged by his brother won the game for the present with a one on one with the keeper two minutes from time, so well done Sean and better luck Tony for next year.
All in all it was a good competitive game, great turn out and well done girls, the beer flowed just as well as the game in the bar after.
